Where pop culture and artisanal screen printing come together
Ronald Chapeau is a Dutch artist, born in 1969 in The Hague. He makes colourful pop art in which screen printing, painting and collage are combined with well-known images from film, music, art and popular culture.
Before Chapeau started creating his own works of art, he worked for years as an artisan screen printer for Herman Brood and Corneille, among others. This technical experience forms the basis of his recognisable and carefully constructed visual language.

ABOUT RONALD CHAPEAU
Famous actors, musicians, artists, comic characters and cultural icons are regularly the centrepiece of Chapeau’s compositions. He places these familiar faces in a new environment of newspapers, posters, texts and graphic symbols.
By combining nostalgic images with contemporary colours and hand-painted details, new visual stories are created. His art is accessible and recognisable, but offers new references and details up close.

STYLE AND TECHNIQUE
Ronald Chapeau works with screen printing, acrylic paint, collage, spray techniques and hand-painted accents on canvas and paper. Old international newspapers and announcement posters from the Stedelijk Museum, among others, regularly form the background of his works of art.
Over this layered base, he applies portraits, logos, texts, paint strokes and powerful colour accents. The offer consists of unique works and small editions to which original details are added. This gives each performance its own look.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
Chapeau first built a versatile technical career as a screen printer for established artists. Later he combined this craftsmanship with his own ideas and developed an independent oeuvre in which pop art, figuration and mixed media come together.
His art is presented to collectors in the Netherlands and beyond through galleries and international art platforms. The globally recognisable references to film, music, comics and advertising give his work a broad international appeal.
