ABOUT PETER KLASHORST
Portraits, self-portraits, nudes, animals and scenes from everyday life are important topics within the extensive oeuvre of Peter Klashorst. He not only captured the appearance, but above all the character, emotion and vulnerability of his models.
Klashorst travelled a lot and worked for a long time in New York, Africa and Southeast Asia, among others. The people, cultures and urban environments he met there were a constant source of inspiration for his art.

STYLE AND TECHNIQUE
Peter Klashorst worked with oil paint, acrylic paint, charcoal, ink, photography and mixed techniques. Coarse brushstrokes, thick layers of paint, drippers, fast lines and visible corrections often remained part of the final artwork.
His oeuvre moves between figuration, neo-expressionism and free abstraction. Within After Nature, Klashorst returned to painting to the observation. The starting point was simple: a lot of painting and capturing what really stands in front of you.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
In the 1980s and 1990s, Klashorst was active in the art world of Amsterdam and New York. His work was exhibited at home and abroad and he grew into one of the most striking representatives of Dutch figurative painting.
Later he lived and worked for a long time in Senegal, Gambia, Kenya, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. In Cambodia, he made a gripping series of portraits of victims of the Khmer Rouge. His international life gave his oeuvre a direct, personal and sometimes confrontational expressiveness.
