ABOUT FLOYD DOUGLAS
Douglas gets his images from photography, fashion, advertising, entertainment and metropolitan life. By combining different sources digitally, new stories are created that balance temptation and criticism.
His art immediately draws attention through colour, shine and recognisable icons. Those who look longer discover a layered image of desire, identity and the speed of modern life.

STYLE AND TECHNIQUE
Many works begin with photography or a digitally composed composition. The image is then translated into a physical work of art and supplemented with mixed media, pigments, paint and manual finishing.
In his spatial works, Douglas uses relief and moulded surfaces to break through the flat image. Light and reflection ensure that the artwork is experienced differently from each position.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
Floyd Douglas’ art is presented to a wide audience through galleries and international art platforms. His work can also be found in the international secondary art market.
Through his combination of photography, digital art, pop art and spatial mixed media, Douglas reaches collectors inside and outside the Netherlands. His subjects are in line with a globally recognisable culture of fashion, film, luxury and urban life.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Floyd Douglas is a Dutch artist, photographer and digital imager, born in 1982 in Amsterdam. His art combines photography, pop art, street art and mixed media with topics from fashion, film, advertising and modern city life.
Douglas creates colourful works of art that bring together celebrities, luxury brands, urban sculptures and symbols of wealth. Behind the attractive exterior, there is regularly a critical message about status, consumerism and the speed of modern visual culture.
Many works of art begin with photography or a digitally constructed composition. The image is then translated into a physical art object and supplemented with pigments, paint, glossy surfaces and manual finishing. The exact version varies per work.
Douglas uses moulded and raised surfaces to break through the traditional flat image. The relief reacts to light and viewing angle, causing reflections and parts of the composition to constantly change. This gives the work an almost sculptural presence.
Available artworks by Floyd Douglas can be viewed online and purchased via OPUS Art Gallery. For a viewing you are welcome in Utrecht every Friday from 14.00 to 19.00. Outside these opening hours you can make a personal appointment.
